Mercerized cotton is cotton treated by a special yarn finishing method of mercerization. During mercerization, fibres are treated with alkaline substances, which are then neutralized by water or steam. As a result, the fibre is more lustrous and stronger.
Brocade is one-sided silk or cotton fabric woven in various weaves, using precious metals or shiny threads. It is monochrome and decorated with a fine geometric, plant pattern or large plant, anthromorphic and zoomorphic motifs. It was first woven in ancient Persia back in the 1st century AD. Especially popular in Europe in the Renaissance and Baroque periods, when heavy, luxurious fabrics were in fashion.
