The Castelo Branco collection is inspired by the famous embroidery of Castelo Branco in Portugal. The embroidery is done with silk thread on linen, using various styles of stitch but especially the defining slack stitch also known as the Castelo Branco. The design comes from the periods of Renaissance and Baroque imagery using yellow and blue colours that enhance the striking tableware pieces.

The persistence of its founder, José Ferreira Pinto Basto, was determining the launching and success of this daring enterprise. A landowner, audacious merchant, and distinguished figure in Portuguese society at the time, José Ferreira Pinto Basto wisely adopted the liberal ideas of the 19th century, having become “the first example of the free initiative” in Portugal
